Blogs can help anyone who has something to say and knows how to say it in an interesting way. However, very few blogs are well-written and authoritative, and even fewer reach a large audience. We will track and analyse influential blogs in the categories of politics, business, art, lifestyle, and activism in this course. We’ll look to the past, investigating the origins of self-published manifestos dating back to the 17th century, and to the future, investigating multimedia blogging formats and “micro-blogging” phenomena such as Twitter.
This course focuses on impactful blogging tools and strategies. Today, only sixteen years after the first blog was published, the internet contains nearly 200 million public blogs, some of which have larger audiences and more influence than the most prestigious print publications.
